Many parents assume that Las Vegas is not the ideal destination to take the kids for a vacation, in part due to its reputation as Sin City; but actually the city has been experiencing a major transformation the last few years. Slowly but surely, Las Vegas is becoming a relatively family-friendly destination with numerous child-friendly attractions and accommodations, making spending a family weekend in Vegas simple for the parents and wholesome fun for the kids.

I have compiled a list of some of the city’s kid-friendly offerings that are perfect for a weekend getaway …

Family-Friendly Hotels

Located just off the strip, nestled away from the bright lights and hustle and bustle, the budget-friendly, Brazilian-themed Rio All Suite Hotel has bright and roomy suites that families will find both fun and functional. The property also has a tropical-themed beach area with pools and waterfalls, providing families a spot to cool down on those steamy Nevada days.

If you are interested in staying on the strip, sister property The LINQ offers a more contemporary and hip family-friendly vibe that tweens and teens will fall in love with. Amenities include LED flat-screen TVs, USB charging stations, vibrant decor and deluxe poolside cabana suites that the millennials in the family will adore.

Kid-Friendly Attractions

Vegas is a sight to see with all its towering buildings, neon lights, outdoor displays, and exciting attractions. When seen from above aboard the High Roller, the world’s highest observation wheel, it’s even more breathtaking. Sleek, air-conditioned cabins offer panoramic views of the sparkling city, taking passengers of all ages on a 30-minute adventure soaring some 550 feet above the center, offering countless perspectives. Tickets start at $9. Kids ages 12 and under ride FREE!

Find the perfect angle to watch the famous Bellagio Fountain Show in all its glory. Tickets start at $10.

If you are a first-timer you may be pleasantly surprised to find out there is a wildlife habitat in the middle of Vegas. The Flamingo Las Vegas makes it possible with its 15-acre Wildlife Habitat of luscious greenery that is naturally home to flamingos and other exotic birds, turtles, and large goldfish, a tranquil oasis on a street buzzing with activity. Bring the kids out early and enjoy the pelican feeding at 8:30 each morning. Free for all ages.

Just steps away from the High Roller, LINQ Promenade is one of Vegas’ newest family-friendly attractions. The open-air commercial district is very quaint with its trees wrapped in string lights, cobblestone streets, and fountains. It is tucked away from the older, more rowdy part of the strip. Take advantage of kid-friendly shopping, restaurants, ice cream shops, and live entertainment, all under the watchful eye of the towering High Roller.

Dazzling Shows

What is Vegas without the exuberant shows of some of the most phenomenal performers in the world? Whether you are planning that perfect parents’ date night, a mom’s night out or a girls’ night out, there are several shows that fit the bill, including Celine Dion’s residency (through Summer 2018) at the Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace, Jennifer Lopez: All I Have (through September 2018) at the Axis at Planet Hollywood and the numerous Cirque du Soleil performances.
