The name “Buck Moon” comes from the time of year when male deer, known as bucks, begin growing a fresh set of antlers. During late spring and early summer, those antlers are covered in a soft, velvety layer that supplies blood and nutrients while they develop. By mid to late summer, the antlers have grown dramatically, making July the perfect time for this full moon to earn its memorable name.
